The 969 movement and the Bodu Bala Sena

As reported in the Colombo Telegraph U Wirathu, leader of the 969 movement made a birthday gift to Galagoda Atte Gnanasara, the secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (Buddhist Power Force) who is currently visiting Burma, on the occasion of Ganasara’s 39th birthday.

It is not reported that any ideas were exchanged between these two prominent and often controversial figures in Buddhist nationalistic movements in Sri Lanka and Burma.

Of course, there should be no surprise at this meeting considering the very close historical ties over several centuries between Sri Lankan and Burmese Buddhism.
